At the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, I was looking forward to an exciting upcoming itinerary. In January of 2020, I had art events scheduled for Hawai'i, Cuba, and Portugal (among many other locations), and I was highly excited to discover new people and especially new beaches!

By the end of March, all of my upcoming events were canceled, and I found myself getting out blue and green paints and applying colors and shapes that suggested the feeling of calming seas.

I was mourning my broken dreams of swimming in Kahana Bay on the windward side of Oahu, Praia da Adraga in Sintra Portugal, or Cuba's Playa Bacuranao. But I found that painting with their oceanic colors helped ease my emotional pain. I found a blue remedy for what was hurting my heart during trying times. - Doug Motel

"I was on yet another Zoom call and stressed about all I had to do and saw your blue painting perched on my hard drive. I immediately changed gears, got back in the moment, and said of the pressing distractions, “It’ll get done.” Whatever it does, it’s working!"
Matt S.

"Adam and I are the proud owners of not one, not 2, but 3 of Doug's pieces! The largest graces our hallway, and we get to view it a gazillion times a day. I make sure to STOP sometimes to just really take it in, and let IT take ME in."
